Welcome to Crystal!

Crystal is a city in Hennepin County about 15 to 20 minutes northwest of Downtown Minneapolis. It is a smaller community with a population of 23,000 residents. Most of the homes in this community were built in the late 60’s and are your basic starter home size 3-4 bedrooms, 1-2 bathrooms, 1,500 to 2250 square feet. Crystal has a ton of park & recreational space with an enormous 240 acres of dedicated park and open space!


Crystal is within the Robbinsdale Area School District (ISD 281). There are three schools physically located within Crystal city limits:

  • Forest Elementary School
  • Neill Elementary School
  • Highview Alternative Program

All schools within the district are within close proximity to homes around the city and can accommodate all type of transportation — walkers, parent drop off, and bus.

There are some great restaurants in Crystal for families to enjoy. A couple of the community favorites are:

Milton’s is a wonderful family restaurant located on the corner of 36th and Douglas. The food is always great and the atmosphere is always friendly!

Sweet Taste of Italy is a very popular Italian restaurant in Crystal. They pride themselves on making all of their items from scratch!

Egg House Cafe is a breakfast and lunch restaurant with hours open 6am to 2pm daily.

Steve O’s is the home to great chicken wings and if you are adventurous 3 for 1 rail drinks and can beer Monday-Saturday 8am to 9am.

  • El Loro

El Loro is a popular Mexican restaurant located within the Crystal Shopping Center.


The Crystal Community Center has large spaces for events, holding up to 400 people. The Crystal recreation department is also run out of the Community Center. The recreation center runs various programs catering to all ages from youth to senior.

Every summer the City of Crystal throws a summer festival called Crystal Frolics. Crystal Frolics hosts several events including: softball tournament, a baggo tournament, and a 5K fun run & walk. The festival is also home to several food booths along with live music daily!

Parks & Recreation

The City of Crystal is committed to providing and maintaining great parks, trails, facilities, and programs for all residents and visitors of the community. Crystal maintains 244 acres of parkland in 27 parks. Crystal also operates a community center, outdoor pool, and skate park.

Crystal Cove Aquatic Center offers a zero-depth pool, water walk, two waterslides, lap pool, plunge slide, and diving board. Crystal Cove is open June through August.

If you are a disc golfing fan you are in luck! Bassett Creek Park is home to a 15-hole disc golf course.

Real Estate Available in the Community

The vast majority of homes available in Crystal are existing homes within neighborhoods established in the late 60’s to 70’s. Depending on price range and what you are looking for you can find a well updated, maintained, and move-in-ready home to an older, outdated, in-need-of-TLC home ready for your remodel ideas!

Crystal also has some townhome community and condo complex options if a buyer doesn’t want to purchase a single family home.

There are few new construction options in Crystal, but there is one new development currently open for development: Gaulke Pond Homes on Douglas. Homes in this neighborhood are priced in the $299-400k range.

Real Estate Market Data & Update

Most recent market data from the Minneapolis Area Association of Realtors shows the following key indicators for the Crystal real estate market:

  • -25.6% change in new listings year-over-year
  • +16.0% change in closed sales year-over-year
  • -2.2% change in median sales price year-over-year
  • $175,000 median sales prices

In summary, like the overall real estate market — sellers are favored with increasing median sale prices, low inventory, and increased closed sales.
